David H. Burton is a Utah-licensed attorney based in Sandy, Utah, serving clients throughout Salt Lake County. His practice covers two areas: estate planning for individuals and families, and business and general counsel work for small and growing companies.
David also serves as a Major and Judge Advocate in the Utah Air National Guard. That military legal career has included work as a prosecutor, a defense counsel, and a legal advisor, experience that shapes how he prepares for a matter, negotiates on a client's behalf, and communicates about what's actually at stake.
On the civilian side, David has spent years as a business owner and general counsel, drafting contracts, forming entities, and managing legal risk from inside a business rather than only advising on it from the outside. That perspective carries over into how he counsels business clients: practical, focused on what actually keeps a business moving, not just what limits exposure on paper.
David built his estate planning practice around a simple idea: the documents that matter most, a will, a trust, a power of attorney, a healthcare directive, shouldn't be confusing or intimidating. He walks clients through each decision in plain language, so they understand exactly what they're signing and why.
David is fluent in Spanish and Chinese, with working knowledge of Portuguese, and is glad to work with clients in any of those languages.
